"One of the photos of Myanmar (Burma) shows a fisherman on the Inle Lake, with the typical net that you can probably find only here. The first time I visited this place was in the early 80s. Only a few turists were able to reach this place, because Burma was almost closed to visitors. It was an absolutely magical place. I came back two times in 2016 for my project "traveling east" which tries to represents visually what I appreciated most in the countries of the indochine peninsula. I visited for this purpose Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos nirth Thailandia and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The project is still in progress, and I will prepare a book. Of course, Myanmar now is not the secluded place of the 80s, but is still well preserved. Inle lake now is visited by many turists and there are 5 stars hotels. But I remember well the past times, and tried to capture what I saw 30 years ago. Including the fishermen and their clever nets (but now many of them are full time "models" for the photos of tourists). The other Myanmar photo chosen here is an image of the famous White Pagoda, with baby monks playing on it. When you visit Myanmar you could see a lot of baby monks. This is because children are requested to spend a few months as monks. A kind of "service" helping them to better appreciate the spiritual life on the monks." Roberto Polillo
